Pokhara is arguably the second largest city of Nepal with an area of 55.22 km2 and a population of over 300,000, making it a very densely populated city. The city is located approximately 200 km west of the country’s capital, Kathamandu. Pokhara is the most popular tourist destination in Nepal, being home to three out of the ten highest mountains in the world — Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu, all just within 48 km (linear distance) of the city, so that the northern skyline of the city offers a very close view of the Himalayas. Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range, the city is also a base for trekkers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit. Pokhara is also residence of a large number of British Gurkha soldiers.

Pokhara is also the hub for adventure sports like Para Gliding, para hawking, worlds longest zip line, microlite and white water rafting.
